The forces that cause society to change suddenly
An excellent training about Social Science
Climate and catastrophe and war
Through out human history there have seen sudden changes in direction for some groups, and not for others. What causes one group to move toward a particular political, or economic program, and not another? Why will groups, traverse hazardous and hostile conditions to find new territory? There are internal social systems that act as driving forces, causing humans to make drastic changes in environment and behavior. Climate, catastrophe, and war are three of the prime motivators of sudden change in human society. Climate has shaped human societies for millions years through ice ages, and drought, and sudden changes in the biosphere caused by climate shifts. Each major climate shift forces change in human society. Catastrophes, such as volcanic eruptions, and meteor strikes have shaped the planet, and all the species on it. The shift in fate of a dominant species, the dinasaur, paved the way for humans. Finally, the human driver of war has moved, and eliminated whole cultures. The dislocation of large segments of society by wars grows larger with each conflict. The loss of past road markers in human cultural past are wiped out, leaving voids, or space for new cultural developments. In this course I take you through these game changers, and how they have changed history, and may change the future. Our understanding of theses forces, how they inpact our species, and how our species embraces them will determine our future.
