In this course, in the semiology section, I will start with a little bit of introduction about seismology, earth structure, and layers then will talk about plate tectonics and continent movements which is the main cause of earthquakes on the earth. After that, I will focus on faults and different types of the faults that can cause damage. I will describe how scientists record the earthquake and different seismic waves which are important for earthquake engineers. Later in the course, I will explain how to find the earthquake epicentre and also discuss different seismic scales. Finally, in this section, I will demonstrate the world’s seismicity followed by the phenomena during and after the earthquake. In the earthquake engineering section, after having an introduction, I will explain several key seismograph parameters and then define the Gutenberg Richter law and how to calculate earthquake return period followed by response spectrum definition. Finally, I will explain all the seismic analysis methods of structures like equivalent static analysis, response spectrum analysis, time history analysis. In the seismic risk section, I will talk about seismic risk parameters and how to reduce these risks. I will also discuss the effect the built environments and humans and the economic aspect of earthquakes. Finally, different mitigation measures in order to reduce earthquake risk are explained.
