Martial arts – Tekko (Knuckle duster) training
The tekko is a form of knuckleduster (a.k.a. brass knuckles), which primarily derives its usage from that of empty hand techniques. Traditionally, the tekko were weaponized stirrups and horseshoes which originated in Okinawa, Japan. This weapon is classified into the category of “fist-load weapons”. Which by definition, a fist-load weapon increases the mass of the hand so that it increases the force the bearer can deliver upon their opponent.A variant of the weapon, known as theTekko-kagi (“back of the hand hooks”), is also discussed. This weapon has four iron nails like bear claws attached to a metal ring. This device, when worn over the hands, could use the claws for scraping and striking. It is used for both offensive and defensive purposes as the wielder can slash and defend with natural hand motions. This course teaches the articles that have been historically used and that which may be presently employed as a form of knuckleduster. Additionally, the blocks, strikes, self-defense techniques and katas for this weapon are described in detail. It is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self defense. Grandmaster Michael A. Stelzer holds several advanced ranks (10th Dan and above) in various styles of martial arts. Additionally, he holds three doctoral of science degrees and is a certified professional wrestler.
